Position details

The Sales Manager is responsible for building and maintaining designated U.S. and South America accounts. This individual is an expert in advising customers of the best vegetable seed varieties that meet their needs.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Sell vegetable seeds varieties; give technical advice to our customers for selecting and cultivating our product.
  • Identify and develop new markets for our seed; inform the company of the status and trends of the seed industry in this territory.
  • Serve customer accounts and ensure the maintenance and growth of the business.
  • Responsible for setting up publicity and promotion programs.
  • Works with production and inventory to request seeds for the Sales Program.
  • Responsible to organize seed samples for trials for new or old varieties. Coordinate trials and get product information.
  • Responsible to coordinate with Breeder research trials and help to evaluate the material to discover new varieties for the market.
  • Write proformas/sales contracts, provide information needed including prices and review needed export documentation according to customer’s instructions and requirements; set the price list for each market.
  • Attend conventions and trade shows that will help maintain and develop our business.
  • Review and resolve quality issues. Write contracts related to exclusive seed varieties and/or as necessary to resolve a quality issue.
  • Responsible to forecast the sales of his territory.
  • In coordination with the accounting department, help with collections.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

Position Dimensions and Qualifications

Internal Contacts:

Direct contact with CEO, Executive Vice President, all Plant Breeders, Station Manager, Pathologist, Product Development, sales personnel, breeder assistant and crew.

External Contacts:

Dealer customers, grower customers, government institutions.

Educational Level and Focus:

Bachelors in Agriculture and/or have the experience to perform the Job.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Communicate effectively by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them at all times. Ability to problem solve; evaluate options and implement solutions.
  • Strong time management skills
  • Knowledge of: Inventory Control Systems, Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft Outlook. Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of vegetable crops, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the profitability of the company.
  • Must be able to work in the office Greenhouses and fields under extreme conditions, be physically fit to walk, bend, kneel, squat, bend your neck and lift up to 30 lbs. International travel up to 60%.
